ABSTRACT
For antibacterial activity, the methanolic extracts of Lantana camara leaves were extracted and the in vitro antibacterial testing was done by using disc diffusion method against Bacillus subtilis, Erwinia herbicola, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas putida and Staphylococcus aureu. The methanolic extracts of leaves were tested, the extracts of Lantana camara showed the antibacterial activity against the bacterial pathogen. The 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay was used to determine the antioxidant activity of potent extract. Lantana camara showed an appreciable antioxidant activity at 40 mg/ml concentration with an inhibition of 66.54 percent and IC50 value 7.39 mg/ml. The reducing
power of the extract increases as the concentration of the extract increases. The results provide evidence that the methanolic leaf extract of Lantana camara can further be recommended in the treatment of the infections caused by the bacterial pathogens. The result indicates that Lantana camara is a potential source of antibacterial and natural antioxidants.
