RATIONALITY BEHIND THE SELECTION OF TAILAS FOR BAHIR PARIMARJANA CHIKITSA: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda has upheld the importance of Sneha and recognizes human as Sneha Sara. Sneha implies a substance that bring unctuousness and the process of oleation of the body is termed as Snehana. It is usually considered as a major Poorvakarma to Shodhana. But, is also recognized as an important mode of drug delivery to reach the target tissues anywhere in the body. Hence Snehana also forms an important part of Bahir Parimarjana Chikitsa. Tailas are widely used for the external procedures. Vast numbers of Tailas are mentioned in classics for different conditions and we note the similar indications in common
to few Tailas. Thus an attempt is made to describe the rationality behind the selection of Taila for some of the commonly used Bahir Parimarjana Chikitsa in the Panchakarma Practice.
