Abstract

ASSESSMENT OF DRUG RELATED PROBLEMS IN POST OPERATIVE PATIENTS IN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY DEPARTMENT IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL –A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Background: In present research, drug related problems (DRPs) evaluation is done in OBG. The intention behind this is to recognize the drug related problems like adverse drug reactions (ADRs), drug interactions (DI), over dose (OD), treatment without indication (TWI), under dose (UD), untreated indication (UTI). There is a lack of knowledge about (DRPs) among patients. drug related problems are prevalent in hospital in-patients. Clinical Pharmacists can play significant role to identify and resolving DRPs. Aim and objectives: The most important aim of the study was to analyze drug related problems in a post-operative patients in obstetrics and gynaecology ward. Methodology: A prospective, observational study was conducted for a period of 6 months in inpatient department of obstetrics and Gynaecology,at ESI hospital,Indira nagar,Bangalore, which is 750 bedded tertiary care hospital. After attainment of approval by the Institutional Ethics committee. A Proforma was used to collect the data of Patient-reported treatment reviews were considered to assess the prevalence and type of DRPs among post-operative patients in OBG ward. Results: The results shown are a total of 180 cases were analyzed during the following study period, out of which DI 51 (28.3%) ADR’s 40 (22.2%) OD 20 (11.1%) TWI 17 (9.4 %) UTI 19(10.5%) UD 11 (6.1%) others 22 (12.2 % more than 1 or 2 DRPs) the most common involvement was raising awareness was giving information during the patient-reported treatment review. Conclusion: The present study concludes insight about the overall drug related problems in postoperative patients. This is useful in decreasing the irrational prescription by regular monitoring, also reduces the DRP’s which is crucial one to decrease the morbidity and health care burden.
