BASIC CONCEPT OF IMMUNIZATION AND VACCINATION: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
This article reviews the basic concept of immunization, contraindications and precautions to immunization and common special considerations in immunization. It also defines various types of vaccination. Various landmarks in vaccination have been depicted in table 1. Immunization is the process whereby a person is made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. Vaccines stimulate the body’s own immune system to protect the person against subsequent infection or disease. For safe and effective immunization patient age, lifestyle and hereditary factors plays a vital role. So before immunization it is necessary to have a complete record of patient clearly specifying age, body weight, height, sex, genetic disorder and addiction to alcohol or other drugs.
