TO EVALUATE THE COMBINED EFFECT OF SELECTED YOGIC AND NATUROPATHY TECHNIQUES IN OBESITY WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO QUALITY OF LIFE-AN INTERVENTIONAL CLINICAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
Obesity consists a major nutritional health problem in developed and developing countries, which has reached epidemic proportions. Obesity is defined as the condition of excessive fat accumulation to such an extent that affects the individual‟s health. It‟s a multifactorial disorder, which is often associated with many other significant diseases. The management of Obesity therefore require a comprehensive range of strategies focusing on those with existing weight problems and also on the high risk of developing complications. Methodology: An open labelled clinical trial design
was adopted in this study with pre-test and post-test design comprising of 30 subjects of obese. These 30 subjects were administered with Naturopathy techniques for 10 days which includes 260 ml of warm water enema in empty stomach, Mud pack over abdomen was applied for 30 mins, and Naturopathy massage was done with sesame oil for 30 mins. Yoga for 30 days, 30 mins twice a day was taught. Asanas and pranayama consisting of – Suryanamaskara (Arohana karma, up to 12 rounds), Ardhamatsyendrasana, Pavanamuktasana, Shalabasana, and Dhanurasana- 3 times each, Nadishodhana and Suryabhedana pranayama-10 rounds. Results: Results of the clinical trial revealed that the combined effect of Yoga and Naturopathy techniques were statistically highly significant in reducing the anthropometry and increasing Quality of life.
