ABSTRACT
The antioxidant capacity of N-(1-naphthyl) ethoxybenzo hydroxamic
acid (NEBHA) has been determined through 2,2'-Diphenyl-1-
picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH) and lipid peroxidation inhibition
methods. It caused 50 % inhibition of DPPH concentration (EC50) at
389.51 mM. Its lipid peroxidation inhibition ability was 43.78 % at
389.51 mM. Both the methods confirm that NEBHA is capable of
inhibiting the free radical mediated DNA damage. The antioxidant
potential of NEBHA was assessed by gel electrophoresis method as
well. This method confirmed the DNA cleavage protection ability of
the compound against H2O2-mediated DNA damage.
