Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF MOUTH DISSOLVING TABLETS OF ATORVASTATIN USING SOY POLYSACCHARIDE AS SUPERDISINTEGRANT

Bharpoor Singh*, Rajni Bala and Dr. Naresh Singh Gill

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research work was to formulate mouth dissolving tablets of Atorvastatin calcium using natural gum i.e. Soy Polysaccharide as Superdisintegrant. Tablets were prepared by direct compression method. The powder mixtures prepared were subjected to both pre and post compression evaluation parameters like micromeritics properties, tablet hardness, friability, wetting time, disintegration time and in vitro drug release. The results of micromeritics studies revealed that all formulations were of acceptable to good flow ability. Tablet friability and hardness indicated good mechanical strength. The F4 formulation which is having 10% concentration of Soy Polysaccharide was given promising results in tablet disintegration, wetting time and gives faster dissolution rate. Hence, it is concluded that the prepared tablets disintegrate in seconds without need of water. The results of stability study of Formulation F4 after a period of two months indicates that the formulation was stable. Based on result it is concluded that formulated oral dispersible tablet of atrovastatin may have wide acceptance as compared to conventional dosage form.

Keywords: Mouth dissolving Tablets, Atorvastatin, Soy Polysaccharide, Croscarmellose sodium.
