EVALUATION OF PREVALENCE OF MESIODENS IN PEDIATRIC POPULATION AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH DENTAL TRAUMA: A RETROSPECTIVE EPIDEMOLOGICAL STUDY

ABSTRACT
Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of “mesiodens” and its association with dental trauma in the pediatric population. Material and methods: 3658 children both male and female were enrolled for the present retrospective study aged 6-15 years. Prevalence of Mesiodens was assessed using Mouth mirror. Any history of dental trauma was also reported. Results: The results showed that males were affected approximately 1.5 times as frequently as females; 2.68% of the total study population had mesiodens. 16.3% children suffered from dental trauma due to presence of mesiodens. Conclusion: Mesiodens could lead to multiple complications. Hence, it is of utmost importance to early diagnose and treat the case
accordingly.
