ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease and it is the one of the cause of morbidity and mortality in the dialysis population. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) represents a challenge in the treatment of type 2 diabetic patients. The study aim to determine the pharmacological management of diabetes mellitus in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to select safest anti diabetic drug in chronic kidney patients. It is a hospital based prospective and observational study was carried out among CKD patients.130 CKD patients were selected from the nephrology for the study .information such as name, age, address, date of admission, previous illness, were collected on a customized data collection form. Information on vitals, laboratory data, frequency & duration of hemodialysis, stages of CKD along with management of diabetes in patients with renal impairment, and discusses the implications of renal disease for the treatment of such patients, a self-evaluating questionnaire was prepared with regard to obtaining patient specific data relevant to the study. Out of 130 CKD patients, majority were males(70.8%) compared to females. Majority patients had CKD Due to diabetes mellitus. In the study maximum incidence of CKD was found in age group of 50-70, indicating that age is an important factor in development of renal failure. In order to achieve good glycemic control, insulin injection therapy remains the mainstay of treatment in diabetic patients with moderate to advanced CKD, particularly receiving dialysis therapies.
