ABSTRACT
When patients visit or get hospitalized, they arrive with a complex and dynamic microbial composition that will be further altered by the treatment and by the interactions they have with staff and with the building itself. As the impact of human and environmental microbiota on patient prognosis and recuperation in the hospital scenario is better comprehended, having the capacity to strengthen advantageous microbial associations and eliminate the destructive ones over the span of hospitalization will prove to be the fundamental step towards effective infection control.
