CLINICAL RELEVANCE OF ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY OF STOMACH IN PROSPECTIVE OF VAMANA

ABSTRACT
An attempt has been made to provide the anatomy and physiological back ground for better understanding of mechanism of Vamana. Vomiting, the basic protective reflexes against ingested toxins or results from underlying disease such as inevitable medication side effect or anatomic obstruction however, in some situations induced vomiting may be a therapeutic option as reported in bulimia nervosa as a weight control measure. As per Ayurveda Vamana Karma is the principal treatment told for Kaphaja Vikaras. Charaka says that Vamana eliminates the aggravated Kapha collected in the region of Amasaya through oral route Vamana is indicated in the underlying
disease such as Vidradhi, Pratishyaya, Vrana, Kushta, Shotha, Gulma.
