DIFFERENT FORMULATIONS OF PRASRUTA YOGIKA BASTI AND ITS PROBABLE MODE OF ACTION

ABSTRACT
Basti is one among Panchakarma procedures in Ayurveda. Classically, it is advocated in the diseases of Vata. Prasruta Basti is explained as a separate chapter by Acharya Charaka in Charaka Samhitha Siddi- Sthana 8th chapter as ‘Prasruta Yogiya Siddi Adhayaya’. Acharya Charaka mentioned that Prasruta Basti can be administered in the Basti Vyapath conditions also. The persons who are Sukumara, persons who gets exhausted by performing Nitya Karya, for those persons Prasruta Pramana of Mrudu and Snehana Guna Yukta Niruha Basti is explained. The Vitarana and Kshaara Basti mentioned by Vangasena holds good under Prasruta Yogika Basti in terms of quantity mentioned. But as it is Teekshna, is contraindicated in Sukumara, Bala,
Vrudha. In such cases, Basti being Sheegra Sukha Vishoditva, Aashu Apatarpana and Aashu Tarpana Yogitvat it becomes Shresta. Hence Prasruta Basti plays a major role in this vulnerable group of people.
