MANAGEMENT OF PCOS WITH AYURVEDA- A REVIEW ARTICLE

ABSTRACT
Poly cystic ovarian disease is becoming one of the major health issues in women’s of adult age group. PCOS is thought to be a genetic trait and may run in families. But nowadays PCOS incidences are increasing due to lifestyle modification of females. As maximum number of females are taking fast foods and junk foods, results in increasing incidences of poly cystic ovarian diseases. The prevalence estimates for PCOS, as defined by the NIH/ NICHD criteria, indicates that PCOS is a common endocrinopathy affecting 4%-8% of women of reproductive age. In Ayurvedic classics it has been mentioned that Ahara and Vihara play a vital role in management of lifestyle
associated diseases. Diet and exercise have also been shown to be a very effective form of treatment, with even just a five to ten percent reduction in weight, creating positive changes in the realms of metabolic, reproductive, and psychological symptoms. Beside this Panchkarma therapy seems to be very effective in the management of lifestyle disorders.
