CLINICAL EFFICACY OF ASHWAGANDHA CHOORNA IN KASHTARTAVA W.S.R. TO PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA

ABSTRACT
Kashtartava, it is a term which is being used for the condition where in a woman suffers with pain during menstruation, it can be equated with primary dysmenorrhoea on the basis of its cardinal symptom that is pain full menses in absence of any identifiable pelvic pathology. primary dysmenorrhea is having clinical and public health importance at the same time, Studies from India reported the prevalence range between 50 to 87.8%.[1] It is a matter of concern because one quarter of the Indian population is constituted by adolescents. Acharya Charaka has mentioned none of the gynecological disease can be arise without affliction of aggravated Vata. By this it shows disease Kashtartava shows strong relationship with Vata dosha by its origin place and the
system it belongs to. It is well known that without association of Vata there cannot be pain. So, it was hypothesized that Ashwagandha choorna having properties like; Vata kapha shamak, Balya can be given as oral therapy. Material and methods: Present study was completed on 15 diagnosed patients of Kashtartava with Ashwagandha Choorna selected from OPD of Prasuti Tantra & Stri Roga National institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur with chief complain of Kashtarvata (primary dysmenorrhoea) with scanty or average amount of blood loss during menses along with associated symptoms. Clinical assessment was done after completion of 2 consecutive menstrual cycles and cases were followed after the course of trial drugs fortnightly for 2 consecutive menstrual cycles. Observations and Results: The result of the study was based on following parameters; Relief in intensity of pain, Relief (decrease) in duration of pain, Relief in associated symptoms VAS Scale and Flow Amount. 10(66.66%) patients showed significant relief, 05(33.33%) patients showed moderate relief.60% and no showed excellent relief. Conclusion: Result was encouraging with marked relief.
