ABSTRACT
Aim/objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of abnormalities in hypertensive patients under various classes of antihypertensive drugs and to assess the prevalence of cardiac events. Methods: Prospective observational study for duration of 6 months was carried out. Results: The prevalence of cardiac events in hypertensive patients with ARB inhibitors was found to be 20.53%. In this study, the lipid profile like TC, LDL and HDL of patients using ARB were evaluated. There was a positive effect of ARB on most lipid indices. TC (203.87±14.78) and LDL (107.27±8.01) levels were mostly decreased in Losartan sub-group, while the reduction in HDL level was best in the Olmesartan (48.89±2.70) and Losartan
(48.19±4.50) group. Conclusion: Patients prescribed with Telmisartan are having higher prevalence of cardiac events among all the ARB inhibitors prescribed. The deviations of Lipid Profile like TC, LDL and HDL levels were more in male population and also predominant with alcoholics. Compared to all ARB drugs, losartan showed good control of lipid levels in hypertension patients.
