ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a systemic metabolic disorders with several major health complications affecting both the quality and the length of life. The purpose of this study is to appraise the antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic activities of the Carica papaya fruits. Diabetes was induced in overnight fasted mice by a single intraperitoneal injection of Streptozotocin (60 mg/kg body weight) in a 0.1 M sodium citrate buffer (pH 4.5). The animals were divided into five groups with five animals in each and treated with methanolic extract of C. papaya unripe fruits at dose 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg body weight respectively.
