ANALYSIS OF VIRYA (POTENCY) BY EXOTHERMIC REACTION OF SHUNTHI (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE ROSCOE.) AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
Dr. Ravi Rathod* and Dr. Anil Pandya
ABSTRACT
Potency certifies the applicability of the drug to be used in various conditions, both in healthy and unhealthy status. Any drug to act as a medicine it is essential that it should be potent. Agni (fire element) and Soma tatva (water element) are considered to be more powerful in the universe. the drugs too are dominant with Agni and Soma. And underlying potency in the drug too is considered as two, Ushna Veerya and Sheeta Veerya. Dual potency is the contributory theory of Ayurveda. Potency is a good preclinical marker of the therapeutic potential of a drug. Ayurveda mentions a term ‘virya’ in context of approach of a drug which indicates the ‘potency of the drug’. Any drug
to act as a medicine essentially should be potent. To assess the term virya there are many method, among them here we adopt a method of thermodynamics reaction. The surroundings are the whole thing in the earth that isn’t part of the eco system. Throughout in all processes, energy is switch between the system and the surroundings.
Keywords: Virya, Exothermic, Shunthi.
