ABSTRACT
Econazole is a synthetic imidazole active against fungi and Gram-positive bacteria. Econazole is used to treat skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. An imidazole derivative that is commonly used as a topical antifungal agent. Econazole has low aqueous solubility. It was patented in 1968 and approved for medical use in 1974.Molecular Weight of econazoleis 381.684gm/mol. Ecostatin (Bristol-Myers Squibb) / Gyno-Pevaryl (Janssen) / Ifenec (Italfarmaco) / Palavale (Otsuka Pharmaceutical) / Pevaryl (Janssen) are marked brands of econazole. Econazole is solid in nature. Melting point of econazole is 162℃.Econazole compromises the integrity of fungal cell wall through inhibiting 14-alpha demethylase which leads to increase permeability of fungal cell wall and cause leakage of
cellular components of fungi. In this presentreview provides account on drug profile and information ofeconazole.
