ABSTRACT
Three-dimensional printing has been hailed as a path-breaking technology which will change manufacturing. It is used in aerospace, defence, art and design, 3D printing is becoming a subject of interest in medical and dental fields. 3D printing, also known as rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing, was first introduced in late 1980s and early 1990s. The application of this technology involves 3D tissue/organ development, creating and developing field of tissue engineering and a variety of actual clinical applications. This technology can be seen as the future of solid dosage forms produced on demand, with lower in cost and it also helps in minimizing side effects caused by excessive doses. 3DP can successfully overcome the issues relating to the drug delivery of peptides, potent drugs, water-soluble
drugs, and the release of multi-drugs, etc. The FDA approval (2015) of printed-medicine opens up an unprecedented opportunity for the discovery of new compounds and technologies for the pharmaceutical industry development. The 3D printing has become one of the most revolutionary and powerful tool serving as a technology of precise manufacturing of individually developed dosage forms, tissue engineering and disease modeling.
