ABSTRACT

In Ayurveda internal transportation system of body is explained by the concept of Strotas. The term Strotas is derived from the root word ‘Susravano’ means which exude, ooze, filter & permeate. Strotas performs such functions which help to nourish the entire body. Any disturbance at level of Strotas either structurally or functionally leads to pathogenesis of diseases. Strotovagunya is the condition of the Strotas which is susceptible for pathological changes or favorable conditions to produce a Vyadhi or disease. In musculoskeletal disorders Vata get vitiated. This vitiated Vata will vitiate the Asthivaha Strotas which further leads to degeneration of joints including articular cartilage and subchondral bone because of Asthivaha Strotas Dushti and leading to different types of diseases of Asthivaha strotas like Sandhigatvata (osteoarthritis), Aamvata (Rheumatoid arthritis), Vatarakt(Gout), carpel tunnel syndrome etc. The disease of Asthivaha Strotas (MUSCULOSKELTAL DISORDERS) are featured with symptoms like Pain and edema in joints, limitation of movement of joints which hampers day to day activities. In Ayurveda the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders include internal medicines (like herbs and dite), external medicines (like Lepas and Patrapinda Sweda) Marma Chikitsa (procedure to increase joint mobility and function and decrease pain), Panchkarma (removing toxins and cleansing the body) and physiotherapy. Keywords- Strotas, Susravano, Vyadhi, Vatarakt, Patrapinda Sweda.
