ABSTRACT
Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN), a field of nanotechnology have established in drug delivery field because of several applications also in clinical medicine and research. These nanosize structured carriers have remarkable properties for development of new therapeutic products. Drug targeting becomes easy by encapsulating drugs in these nanocarriers. SLN have achieved good results in site-specific spatial and temporal drug targeting for treatment of several chronic diseases. The present article focuses on the applications of SLN in oral delivery that are recent advances in the field of nanotechnology. It also covers advantages, limitations and different methods of preparation of SLN feasible for scalability along with suitable analytical techniques for characterization of SLN. SLN provides a promising approach and hopeful vision for treatment of several dreadful diseases.
Keywords: Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN), carrier systems, oral delivery.
