EFFECTIVENESS OF VARMAM THERAPY AND ENNAI KATTU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THANDAGAVATHAM (LUMBAR SPONDYLOSIS) – A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
To evaluate the effectiveness of varmam therapy and Ennaikattu with Laguvisamusti oil in the management of thandagavatham. Siddha system of medicine is a vast repository of internal (Aga Maruthuvam) and external medicines (Pura Maruthuvam). Thandagavatham is a kind of rheumatism characterized by severe pain in which the body is rendered like a log of wood. In this case series, 10 patients with chronic back pain and 10 patients with neck pain, aged between 20 and 65 both male and female, who were admitted in the IPD of Sirappu Maruthuvam Department at National Institute of Siddha, Chennai, were selected and observed. The 10 patients with lumbar disc prolapse were divided into 2 groups, each comprising 5 patients. While the
patients belonging to group 1 were given ennaikattu along with medicines. The patients in the group 2 received ennaikattu along with stimulation of varmam points and medicines. Symptoms experienced by patients before and after treatment in both groups were observed and the results were determined using universal pain scale.
