SEDENTARY LIFE HABITS AMONG PHYSIOTHERAPY COLLEGE STUDENTS – AN ALARMING HEALTH ISSUE

ABSTRACT
Aim of the study: Physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality. Physical activity in directly correlated with the reduction in major health problems. In recent years fast food consumption are in Himalayan heights which targets the college students. In addition to fast food consumption, the physical inactivity plays a major role in the declining of the health status of the individual. In this study the physical activity, sedentary life styles were analysed. Materials and method: 100 physiotherapy college students within the age group 18-21 years were selected randomly, and a self-administered questionnaire are given. Which includes their physical activity level
like walking, exercise, gym and sporting activity, time spent in social media, watching television, and consumption of fact food items. Results: The results significantly show that the students are leading a sedentary life style. Conclusion: The college students who are the representation of next generation should de educated about the ill effects of the sedentary life style. Health promotions, fitness awareness and counselling should be carried in the college campus to build up a healthy generation.
