Acne is a chronic inflammatory disease of pilosabaceous unit resulting from androgen induced increased sebum production. It has been found that around 85% of teenagers suffer from this skin disease worldwide. Propionibacterium sp. as pus forming bacteria of triggering an inflammation in acne. The present study was conducted to evaluate antibacterial activities of medicinal plants against these etiologic agents of acne vulgaris. Different dilution of aqueous extract
(100μl,90μl,80μl) of Ocimum basilicum (leaves), Aloe vera (gel) were tested for antibacterial activities agar well diffusion method. The results from agar well diffusion showed that Ocimum basilicum could inhibit Propionibacterium sp. And aloe vera could inhibit Staphylococcus aureus. Among these two plants Ocimum basilicum had strong inhibitory effect. The result shows that maximum inhibition observed against Propionibacterium sp. (19mm/100μl). the extract of aloe vera leaf has antibacterial susceptibility was observed against Staphylococcus aureus. Our data indicated that Ocimum basilicum had a stronh inhibitory effect on Propionibacterium sp.
