KALKA KALPANA: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana are the vital parts of Ayurveda which mainly deals with Aurvedic pharmaceutics. The word Bhaishajya means medicine and Kalpana means form hence, the branch which deals with the various forms of medicine such as Swaras (juice), Vati (tablets), Churna (powders) etc. is named as Bhaishjya Kalpana. In Ayurveda different types of dosage forms are described for therapeutic purpose and method of preparation of all dosage forms are different. Panchvidhkashaya Kalpana are the basic primary dosage forms of Ayurveda. It includes ‘Swaras’- the expressed juice, ‘Kalka’-a fine paste, ‘Kwatha’- the decoction, ‘Sheeta’ or ‘Heema’ – the cold water infusion and ‘Phanta’ – the hot water infusion. Further from this five basic Kalpanas, a number of other formulations are derived.
Present paper aimed to highlight the detail review about Kalka Kalpana, among Panchvidhkashaya Kalpana.
