ABSTRACT
A series of new benzotriazole compounds (3A-3F) have been
synthesized by the reaction of benzotriazole with chloroacetone in the
presence of dry acetone and anhydrous Potassium carbonate, the
acetylated compound is then converted into chalcones (2A-2F) by
aldol condensation with different aromatic aldehydes. The formed
chalcones were then treated with benzoic acid hydrazide and converted
into corresponding benzotriazolo pyrazolines. The synthesized
compounds were screened for their in-vitro antibacterial activity by
cup plate method. It can be inferred from the results that the newly synthesized compounds
possessing electron withdrawing groups at the aldehydic phenyl ring exhibits better
antibacterial activity.
Keywords: benzotriazole, chalcone, pyrazole, antibacterial activity.
