A REVIEW ON PRATISARNIYA KSHARA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HAEMORRHOID

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda is ancient holistic system that originated in India more than 5000 year ago. Ayurveda is science of life & sensible way of living knowledge based. Ayurveda is divided into Aastanga(eight part) for deep knowledge of every subject of every parts. Acharya Sushruta (Father of ancient surgery) give brief description of of Shalyatantra using surgery and also use medicine & parasurgical process. In various Samhitas of Ayurveda, about Hemorrhoid there are lots of references avail and it’s is elaborated as a separate diseases with specific management. Today’s disturbed life style leads constipation which is the main cause of hemorrhoid. In Sushruta Samhita, Hemorrhoid is placed in the category of Ashtamahagada, due to its intensity. For that reason its treatment is done in all four types (Bhaisaja, Ksharakarma, Agnikarma and Shastrakarma) Kshara act as chemical cauterization effective in obliterating the hemorrhoid as well as preventing from recurrence.
