REVIEW ON THE MEDICINAL HERB; BARLERIA PRIONITIS

ABSTRACT
Barleria prionitis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, which is also called as porcupine flower. Ayurvedic and medicinal utilization of its parts like root, stem, leaf, flower and whole plant for disorders which include jaundice, cough, fever, inflammation, migraine, bronchial asthma, ulcer. The important source of secondary metabolite in barlariaprionits includes alkaloids, glycoside, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, saponin, tannin, steroids. This plant exhibits pharmacognostical screening like potent anti-ulcer, anti-oxidant, anti-nociceptive, anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, hepatoprotective, and gastro-protective. The scenic view of this review features current
progress of barlariaprionitis in pharmacognostical and pharmacological field along with its prominent traditional uses.
