ABSTRACT
The current research work aimed at Formulation development and evaluation of Topical Leflunomide Hydrogel for rheumatoid Arthritis using Xyloglucan and along with Carbopol. Leflunomide was gift sample of Torrent Pharma Ltd. Accurately weighed quantity of Carbopol 934(0.2 %), Xyloglucan (1 %) and sodium benzoate ( 0.25 %) were dissolved in cold distill water and kept aside for overnight at room temperature. Drug (1 %) was dissolved separately in Propylene Glycol (10 ml) and this solution was added to above Carbopol 934, and Xyloglucan solution. The solution was neutralized with specific amount of tri ethanol amine and formulation was characterized for
various parameters including viscosity, pH, spread ability (4.5 gm.cm/sec), drug content (93.6± 0.3) in – vitro drug release (85 % in 6 hrs.) and drug release kinetic (Higuchi Model). Result of all the studies suggested that Leflunomide Hydrogel using Xyloglucan and along with Carbopol 934 formulation was therapeutically effective drug delivery system for treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
