ABSTRACT
Wound over leg or foot caused due to venous stasis as a sequel of incompetent venous tree of lower extremities, is known as varicose ulcer. These types of ulcerations are very stubborn towards healing. It is one of the most serious chronic venous insufficiency complications. The overall incidence rate is 0.76% in men and 1.42% in women. Venous blood stasis and failure of the microcirculation causes difficulty in perfusion as well as supply of nutrients. This hastens the process of wound healing. Also, there is prolongation of the inflammatory stage of wound healing. Conventional medicinal treatment involves foot elevation, rest and dressing of the wound with
povidone iodine 10% w/v. This therapy proves to be inefficient and has long resolving time duration. Luckily, Ayurveda serves as a bridge to bring the two edges of the ulcer closer by tested herbal formulations. Panchavalkala Kashaya and Jatyadi Taila are two such miracle drugs showing promise in healing of venous ulcers. This paper is a case study showing integrated approach using these two drugs in a patient with chronic recurring varicose ulcer over right foot.
