ORTHOSTATIC HYPOTENSION IN ELDERLY: A PROSPECTIVE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Orthostatic hypotension(OH) is a major risk factor for falls and independently associated with increased mortality and morbidity. General adult population prevalence appears to be around 7%, rising from 11% to 15% in persons 65 years older and 19% in those aged over 80 or older. The study is about the prevalence of Orthostatic Hypotension among elderly patients above 65 years of age and its association with past medical conditions, symptomatology, and selected clinical measurements. This study provides details on how common is orthostatic hypotension among elderly patients, its occurrence in both genders, and its distribution among symptomatic
and asymptomatic patients along with past medical conditions. According to the study, male orthostatic patients above 65yrs of age were found to be asymptomatic with multiple past medical conditions which mainly includes Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Previous Stroke, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Coronary Artery Disease, Hypertension.
