ABSTRACT
Abrus precatories Linnaeus ( A. precatorius L.) is an important plant having several medicinal values. In the present investigation attempts were made to isolate pure DNA from A. precatorius L. leaves. Objective was, extraction of DNA from the plant leaves will help the genotype analysis leading to scientific identification of the plant as well as plant breeding and genetic diversity. Attempts were also made to study the seasonal effect on extraction of pure DNA from A. precatorius L. leaves as, it is known, that season has effect on amount of chemicals in the plant parts. Leaves of A. precatorius L. were collected during summer, autumn, winter and rainy seasons, identified by experts and processed for extraction, quantitation & purity estimation of genomic DNA by the standard methods. Results showed that pure DNA was extracted from A. precatorius L. leaves in high
amount during autumn (September – November). It is concluded that A. precatorius L. leaves of autumn may be used to get pure and high amount of pure DNA.
