Shally Sharma*, Nimrata Seth and Dr. Naresh Singh Gill
ABSTRACT
Oral drug delivery remains the preferable route of drug delivery. Novel technologies with better performance, patient compliance, and enhanced quality have emerged in the recent past. As they are easy to administer hence these delivery system start gaining popularity and acceptance as new drug delivery system which leads to better patient compliance. Fast dissolving drug delivery system can be formulated by the various techniques i.e. direct compression, tablet molding, freeze drying, spray drying, nanoionization etc. Oral fast-dissolving tablets, are an examples of a few existing techniques with the potential to aid various physicochemical, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristic of drugs. Moreover by this system, the amount of drug
that is subject to first pass metabolism is reduced as compared to conventional tablets. For faster disintegration of tablet use of superdisintegrant is necessary in adequate concentration. This review covers excipients, formulation methods, advantages, limitations and evaluation parameters for fast dissolving tablets.
