ABSTRACT

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection and requires a long period of Drug usage due to the High resistance power of mycobacterium tuberculosis. In recent years it has been a warming problem and when compared to HIV the deaths caused by TB are more and prevalent all over the world. The main anti-TB drugs are RIFAMPICIN, ETHAMBUTOL & ISONIAZID. Among those three Ethambutol is used very less when compared and has more activity WHO highly recommend to use Ethambutol due to its First-line therapy and short term use gives a high and speedy recovery due to its Lipid metabolism of 20 % (Hepatic metabolism) and has protein binding of Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection and requires a long period of Drug usage due to the High resistance power of mycobacterium tuberculosis. In recent years it has been a warming problem and when compared to HIV the deaths caused by TB is more and prevalent 20 to 30%. Ethambutol (EMB) syn. Ethambutolum, Myambutol: IUPAC name (2S)-2[2[[(2S)-1hydroxybutan-2yl]amino]ethylamino]butan-1-ol is one of the best front-line agents in the treatment of tuberculosis.EMB is a simple diamine molecule and was synthesized by reacting 1,2-dihaloethane with chirally pure (S)-2-amino 1-butanol.3,4. It has been evaluated for anti-tubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The drug exerts its bacteriostatic activity by virtue of inhibition of arabinosyl transferase an enzyme drug polymerizes into aribinan and then arabinogalactan a mycobacterial cell wall constituent. It is also used as a part of a combination regimen in the therapy of mycobacterium ovium complex infections in patients with or without infection with HIV virus

Keywords: Ethambutol, Anti-inflammatory, Antioxidant activity, assay of ethambutol.
