ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate hepatoprotective activity of
squalene isolated from Albizia procera Roxb.(Benth.) against
paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity on wistar rats. Paracetamol
treatment leads to elevated levels of serum enzymes, non-enzyme
markers & lipid profiles and also decreased the serum protein levels.
However, treatment with squalene isolated from Albizia procera
significantly reversed the above changes compared to the control group
as observed in the paracetamol-challenged rats. The results clearly
demonstrate that squalene isolated from Albizia procera possesses
promising hepatoprotective effects and hence suggests its use as a
potential therapeutic agent for protection from paracetamol overdose.
