DESIGNING, SYNTHESIS, SPECTRAL CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIBACTERIAL STUDY OF SCHIFF BASE LIGANDS AND THEIR COBALT (II), COPPER (II) AND ZINC (II) COMPLEXES
Richa Kothari *, Brajraj Sharma
ABSTRACT The metal complexes of Co (II), Cu (II) and Zn (II) with p-substituted benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone have been synthesized and characterized by means of various Physico-chemical techniques like IR, H1NMR, Electronic, Mass spectra, Conductance measurement , Elemental analysis, magnetic moment etc. The magnetic susceptility measurements and low conductance data provide evidence for the monomeric and neutral nature of the complexes respectively. The antimicrobial activities of the ligands and their complexes have been studied by screening the compounds against the bacteria: E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis and S. aureus and results have been compared with the standard drug amphicillin. The data indicate that most of the metal complexes have higher antimicrobial activity than the free ligands and the standard drug. The molar conductance measurements of complexes in DMF correspond to 1:2 electrolytes. On the basis of above observation the complexes were proposed to be square planar geometry. Keywords: Thiosemicarbazone, Co (II), Cu (II), Zn (II) complexes, Antimicrobial activity, square planar, MICs. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
