Abstract

ENDORPHIN- NATURAL PAIN KILLER

Archana Sharma*, Ankur Sood, Neerupma Dhiman

ABSTRACT

Endorphin consists of two parts: endo and orphin; these are short forms of the words endogenous metersorphine which means "a morphine-like substance which is produced by the human body". The Endogenous Opioid system includes a large number of opioid peptides that are ligands for numerous types of opioid receptors. Three distinct families of endogenous opioid peptides have been well characterized- Endorphins, Enkephalins and Dynorphins. The three main types of opioid receptor are . Enkephalins interact with the δ receptor, Dynorphins interact with the receptor and Endorphins bind to both μ and δ receptors with comparable affinity. More recently, two additional short peptides, Endomorphin-1 and Endomorphin-2 that display a high affinity and selectivity for μ opioid receptors have been identified. But one of the main opioid peptide is the Human β- endorphins which have analgesic action. In this review we know about β- endorphins, its mechanism of action, & its different analogs with structure activity relationship.

Keywords: opioid, Enkephalins and Dynorphins.
