CASE REPORT ON GALACTORRHOEA INDUCED BY RISPERIDONE

ABSTRACT
Paranoid schizophrenia is a functional psychotic disorder in which splitting of perception and interpretation from reality is seen. Common symptoms for paranoid schizophrenia include auditory hallucinations and paranoid delusions. A 30 yrs old female patient attended OP with chief complaints of auditory hallucinations, delusions, angered outburst and abusive. She was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia which is usually treated with Antipsychotic drugs. She was advised with Risperidone(3mg BD), Olanzepine(10mg BD), Ferrous fumarate, Folicacid and Zinc Supplements. After 43 days she again attended OP on reporting the adverse event Galactorrhoea (flow of milk from the
breast other than lactation). The suspected cause for the aroused adverse effect was the use of Risperidone. The ADR of drug was managed by drug withdrawal, dechallenging risperidone and replacing it with another antipsychotic drug Lurasidone whose incidence of the occurred adverse event was negligible.
