ABSTRACT

The main aim and objective of the present research work was the preliminary phytochemical screening and evaluation of in vivo antihyperlipidemic activity of ethanolic, methanolic and chloroform extracts of fruit of Coccinia grandis (L) (EE-FCG, ME-FCG and CE-FCG). The in vivo antihyperlipedemic activity was carried out in albino Wister rats. The experimental data was displayed that the various extracts such EE-FCG, ME-FCG and CE-FCG were showing the lipid lowering ability in experimental rats with reference to standard drug lovastatin. The declined serum lipids profile (TCH, TGS, HDL – C, LDL – C and VLDL – C) by EE-FCG was found to be 70.1, 97.9, 23.1, 31.4 and 17.8 mg/dl, ME-FCG was found to be 74.9, 99.4, 23.8 and 28.9 (mg/dl) and CE-FCG was found to be 73.1, 98.6, 23.4, 27.5 and 18.1mg/dl etc. The percentage of reduced serum lipids by various extracts such as EE- FCG –III, ME-FCG-IV and CE-FCG-V were found to be: 19.17%, 14.00%, 16.07% (TCH), 22.36%, 21.17%, 21.80% (TGS), 4.14%, 1.24%, 2.90% (HDL–C), 20.10%, 26.46%, 30.02% (LDL–C), and 34.31%, 31.73%, 33.21% (VLDL–C) etc. The experimental data displayed that the EE- FCG has the highest ability to reduce the serum lipids in comparison to others.

Keywords: Antihyperlipidemic, TGS, HDL – C, VLDL – C etc.
