ROLE OF YOGA AND PHYSICAL EXERCISES IN SRESS AND HYPERTENSION

ABSTRACT
Now a day’s modern world is facing a pandemic of lifestyle disorders like stress and hypertension. Yoga and Physical exercises are the best lifestyle has potential in the prevention, management and rehabilitation of prevalence of lifestyle disorders. Yoga has been found effective to manage work related stress. Yoga based lifestyle involves lifestyle modification based on the concept of promotion of psychosomatic and spiritual health and proper living. The Yoga word is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuja’ which means to combine soul and mind with the
body. It has been proved that Yoga in general, achieves voluntary control over the afferent nervous system by establishing an equilibrium between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system through hypothalamic limbic system. Thus yoga easily achieves control over mind. Mental stress is of the important factor, which increase the cardiac output by 50% - 100% Yoga and physical exercise achieves equilibrium or peace of mind which is almost necessary for the control of hypertension. Physical exercise also reduces fat. It has been observed that fat reduction by itself reduce hypertension in some primary cases. Yoga teaches the way of life in all aspect like eating, habits, cleanliness, self-management etc. This paper shows role of yoga that is pranayama, dhyana, padmasana, shavasana, vajrasana and physical exercise in lifestyle disorders like stress and hypertension.
