Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF LIQUISOLID COMPACT OF TELMISARTAN

Dhanashri B. Hire*, Rajendra K. Surawase, Yashpal M. More, Avish D. Maru

ABSTRACT

Liquisolid system refers to formulations formed by conversion of liquid drug, drug suspension or drug solution in the non volatile solvents in to non adherent, free flowing compressible powder mixture by blending the solution or suspension with selected carrier and coating materials. The main objective of the work was to improve the dissolution rate of the drug, Telmisartan by using Liquisolid compact by wet granulation method. Telmisartan drug is poorly soluble in water. The Liquisolid compact were prepared using a mathematical model to calculate a required quantity of powder liquid ingredients to produce an acceptable and free flowing compressible powder. Avicel pH 102 and Aerosil 200 used as a carrier and coating material. The PVP K30 used as binder. The prepared Liquisolid compact of Telmisartan were evaluate for their flow properties such as bulk density, tapped density, angle of repose, Carr’s index, Hausner’s ratio. Drug – excipients interaction were studied by FTIR. The Liquisolid compact were evaluated for weight variation, hardness, drug content, and disintegration time and dissolution rate. Liquisolid compact having a higher dissolution rate. This enhanced dissolution rate due to increased wetting properties and surface area of drug available for dissolution.

Keywords: Liquisolid compact, suspension, carrier, acceptable, powder, dissolution.
