Abstract

EVALUATION OF IN-VITRO WOUND HEALING ACTIVITY OF SIDA CORDATA

*Vikram E. N. T. and N. Jayshree

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study is to evaluate the wound healing potential of the whole plant Sida cordata using various in vitro models. The whole plant has been collected, dried, coarsely powdered and extracted using ethyl acetate, ethanol and distilled water on the basis of polarity and literature review. The phytochemical evaluation and cell proliferative evaluation (MTT assay) of all three extracts were conducted to choose an extract with good cell proliferation properties for further studies. The Ethanolic extract showed the presence of several phyto constituents and favourable cell proliferation. Various other parameters such as ability to induce cell motility, angiogenesis and anti-bacterial properties of the chosen ethanolic extract were evaluated to explore the possible mode of action. It was identified, with the in vitro studies, that the Ethanolic extract of Sida cordata acts by inducing cell proliferation, cell motility and angiogenesis. It has no anti-bacterial effect against the selected microbes.

Keywords: EESC (Ethanolic extract of Sida cordata), MTT assay, Wound scratch test, CAM (Chorio Allantoic Membrane) assay, angiogenesis, cell motility.
