Archana V. Rajdeo*, Jyoti N. Patil and Samruddhi S. Patil

ABSTRACT

The aim of the current study is to prepare solid dispersion of celecoxib in order to enhance its solubility by using polymer like PVP K30 which ultimately helps to increase bioavailability of celecoxib. Solid dispersion of celecoxib were prepared by using physical mixture, kneading method and solvent evaporation method. Solubility of solid dispersion with PVP K30 by solvent evaporation method in 1:1, 1:2, 1:4 and 1:6 was found to be 0.178, 0.198,0.181 mg/ml respectively. data 1:4 ratio almost increases solubility, there for this was optimized batch for use farther investigation. Dissolution profile of optimum batch shows 99% drug release in 20 minutes. Solubility of the drug was increased by the solvent evaporation method as compared to physical mixture and pure drug. The bioavailability of solid dispersion formulation was also enhanced in comparison with Std. Celecoxib. Finally it can be concluded that the solid dispersion technique is a useful technique in improving the solubility and bioavailability of slightly water-soluble compounds such as Celecoxib.

Keywords: Solubility enhancement, Solid dispersion technique, Solvent evaporatiom method, celecoxib, PVP K30, bioavailability.
