Abstract

A REVIEW ON APPLICATIONS OF LIGNOLYTIC ENZYMES OF FUNGI

*Mukherjee Arpita and Dutta Amit Kumar

ABSTRACT

Ligninolytic enzymes play a crucial role in global carbon cycle. Fungus has been observed to be the most potent ligninolytic enzyme producer. Extracellular oxidoreductase including Lignin Peroxidase (LiP), Manganese Peroxidase (MnP) and Laccase produced by wood degrading microbes, found to be involved in degradation of lignin and various xenobiotic compounds including dyes. Ligninolytic enzyme has a potential role in many fields including dye decolorization, degradation of PAHs, Variolization of Lignocellulose waste. It is also having its application in food and beverage industries, paper and pulp industries, biofuel production. White Rot Fungi is preferred for conversion of lignocelluloses into animal feed as these fungi have the potential to keep the cellulose intact maintaining the energy value of such wastes. Thus they can be used in bioremediation purposes as they bear the property to remove xenobiotic compounds and produce polymeric products. While upcoming research would be focused for optimization of methods. The biotechnological approach led to drastic increase in the demand of these enzymes in commercial level.

Keywords: Ligninolytic enzyme, Lignin Peroxidase, Manganese Peroxidase, Laccase, White Rot Fungi, Dye Decolorization, Biofuel, Animal Feed.
