ABSTRACT
In the vision of chemistry, Schiff bases play a very important role. The
Schiff bases and their complexes have been reported in the literature
possessing wide applications in biological, clinical and analytical field.
In view of that, in the present work, new substituted Schiff bases were
synthesized by a very simple and economical reaction in a good yield.
It involves, reaction of 1, 2-diamino benzene with the various
substituted aromatic aldehydes in presence of anhydrous ZnCl2, yields
corresponding 4, 4’-disubstituteted Bis-(benzyl phenyl) diamine. The
synthesized compounds were characterized by their physical constants,
TLC, IR and NMR spectroscopy. Further, all the synthesized
compounds were successfully evaluated for their antimicrobial
activities by cup-plate method.
Keywords: Orthophenylenediamine, Schiff’s base; Imine; Antimicrobial activity.
