ABSTRACT

From ancient time, man has been pursuing research on the traditional systems of medicine, which requires scientific analysis and standardisation methods to compete with the modern medicine to globally. The quality control of raw materials is important to justify their acceptability in medicine. The present investigation reports the standardisation of raw materials present in polyherbal capsules which constitutes of Phyllanthus amarus, Eclipta alba, Ocimum sanctum, Tribulus terrestris, Cassia occidentalis and Piper nigrum. On the basis of organoleptic character, Morphological character, Microscopical character and Powder Microscopical character every plant is identified. The raw materials were subjected to physiochemical evaluation in order to find out its quality and purity of the drugs. Finally, the standardisation procedures have been experimented by phytochemical analysis. Phytochemical test and Chromatographic analysis were also carried out in order to find out the chemical constituents present in the drugs. From the present investigation, it can be concluded that the raw materials were standardised in accordance with the standards laid down in Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India.

Keywords: Polyherbal formulation, Raw materials, Standardisation, Physiochemical parameters, phytochemical analysis.
