Abstract

A LITERARY REVIEW OF NIDANA PANCHATMAKA STUDY OF KSHEENA-?UKRA

Dr. Puneet Kumar Garg* and Dr. Shri Ram Saini

ABSTRACT

The term Ksheeṉa-Śukra comprises of two words, Ksheeṉa and Śukra. Word Ksheeṉa conveys the meaning diminished, expended, destroyed, weakened, broken, wasted, lost, worn away, injured, torn, emaciated, feeble, and waning as the moon. Ksheeṉa-Śukra may be defined as; variety of Śukra Dosha where in due to Nidāna Sevana, the vitiated Vāta and Pitta Dosha in turn vitiate Śukra and causes decrease of Śukra either quantitatively or qualitatively or both. Various synonames of Śukra as semen, as Praharsha, Preeti (androgenic hormones) and as Retas are included in classic texts. The term Ksheeṉa-Śukra seems to be analogous with term oligozoospermia mentioned in modern science. Because oligospermia is defined as a subnormal concentration of spermatozoa in the penile ejaculate of the Semen. Sperm count less than 40 million cells per ml of semen are considered as a case of Ksheeṉa-Śukra (Oligozoospermia). Ācarya Caraka has described physical examination of semen under 8 factors. They are Phenila, Tanu, Rooksha, Vivarna, Pichila, Pooti, Anya Dhātu Saḿsrushta, Avasādi. Diagnostic methods of Ksheeṉa-Śukra (Oligozoospermia) are described by modern as well as in Ayurvedic literatures. While dealing with Nidāna & Saḿprāpti of ŚukraKshaya Janya Kalibya more importance is given to Śukrakshaya aetiopathogenesis. Generally two kinds of pathogenesis can be assumed for this condition- Anuloma Śukrakshaya and Pratiloma Śukrakshaya.

Keywords: Kshee?a-?ukra, Oligozoospermia and ?ukraKshaya Janya Kalibya.
