ABSTRACT

The green synthesis of nanoparticles emerges at present since it is an eco friendly and interesting approach in the field of nanobiotechnology. The properties of materials change as their size approaches the nanoscale due to the large surface area of the material. In the present study we have carried out the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using aqueous extract of Cissus rotundifolia leaves for the reduction of aqueous Ag+ ions. The formation of synthesized nanoparticles, monitored by UV-Visible study revealed the Surface Plasmon Resonance at 452 nm and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM) analysis carried out and ascertained the formation of AgNPs. Nanoparticles are almost spherical in shape having the size of 18 ± 4 nm. When evaluated for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity at 25 mL, CRL-AgNPs showed considerably enhanced activity when compared to that of the plant extract. The CRL-AgNPs were also effective in the catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) into 4-aminophenol (4-AP).

Keywords: Cissus rotundifolia, Bioreduction, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Anti-inflammatory activity, Catalytic activity.
