ABSTRACT
Plan: A review on the importance of pyrazine and related heterocyclic
compounds for tuberculosis and other conditions. Pyraines shows
various biological activities such as antimycobacterial, antibacterial,
fungicidal etc. Pyrazinamide, a derivative of pyrazine is an important
antitubercular agent used as first line drug for tuberculosis therapy.
Tuberculosis is a chronic granulomatous disease caused by
Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The major problem in tuberculosis
therapy is the development of drug resistance. In the present study, we
have made an attempt to compile the reports on biological potential of
pyrazine and related heterocyclic compounds. These compounds
possess good antimicobacterial, antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxic and
oxidant activities. Thus pyrazine can be used for the development of
new chemical entities to treat Mycobacterial infection and various other conditions.
Keywords: Pyrazine, Pyrazinamide (PZA), Antimycobacterial, Antibacterial, Antifungal.
