Abstract

IDENTIFICATION OF POTENTIAL LIGNINASE PRODUCING FUNGUS FROM VEGETABLE WASTE COLLECTED FROM DINDIGUL, SOUTH INDIA AND ITS STUDY ON OPTIMAL GROWTH CONDITIONS

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to isolate a most potential ligninase producing fungus from the collected vegetable waste samples of Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 21 fungal strains were isolated and pure cultured throughout this study, among them DGLF11 showed maximum ligninase activity with 80.7 Units/ml. This fungus was identified as Aspergillus niger based on molecular sequencing method using internal transcribed sequence (ITS) region. This strain showed maximum growth on medium with the conditions of pH 6, 28°C temperature, 2% carboxymethylcellulose and 0.75% tannic acid. Based on the above facts, the isolated fungus showed the possibilities for the enhanced production of ligninase enzyme using easy lab consumables and conditions as predicted.
